Giving Back to the Dive Community That Shapes Us

In Sundari Voyages by Archipelago Dive Reserve, we believe that diving in Komodo is more than just exploring beautiful reefs. It’s about people, community, and the future of local divers who grow up by these waters.

Recently, we’ve taken an important step forward by committing 1% of our trip prices to support local divers and give back to the Komodo dive community. This is not a short-term campaign. It’s a CSR program we’re committed to for as long as Sundari Voyages is running.

Before putting this into action, we wanted to truly understand where support is needed. That’s why we got involved in an event organized by P3KOM (Professional Diver Association of Komodo), called P3Kom Got Talent.

P3KOM hosted an inspiring program where they carefully selected 15 of the best local students and teenagers under 22 years old, all holding a Manggarai KTP, and provided them with a free Open Water Diver course through PADI / SSI. For many of these young divers, this is their first real step into the professional dive world. The opening ceremony went really well on the 9th of January and showed just how much support this initiative has from the wider community. It was attended by the Regent of West Manggarai, the Head of the Tourism Office, local police representatives, a legendary Komodo dive guide, and all supporting sponsors. Seeing government, industry, and dive professionals come together in one place made it clear that investing in local divers is something everyone believes in.

The response to this initiative was incredible. It received strong support from the local government (Dinas Pariwisata), major industry players like Komodo Dive Shop, dive centers including Blue Marlin, CNDive, ScubaGo, Dragon Dive, Papiton, and also DAN (Divers Alert Network). Seeing the dive community come together like this was truly motivating.

At the time this post is written, the students are preparing for their Open Water Dives 1–4 on January 19–20, 2026. While the training is still ongoing, being involved has already given us valuable insight into how meaningful support, proper training, and access to education can shape the future of diving in Komodo.

This experience reinforced our belief that sustainable tourism starts with empowering local people. Through this 1% contribution, we aim to support education, safety, and opportunities for local divers…so the next generation can grow with confidence, skills, and pride in their home waters. Sundari Voyages exists because of Komodo. Giving back is simply part of the journey.
